27 year-old Bernard Quilala is an Edmonton-born performer and has been singing since the time he’s been able to make sound. Doing the majority of his musical training in his shower and car, Bernard has also graduated from programs at Edmonton Musical Theatre and has worked under such voice coaches as Edmonton jazz songstress, Anna Beaumont, Elaine Overholt, who’s worked with such legends as Ray Charles, Tina Turner, and Queen Latifah. Most notably, Bernard was privileged enough to work with Debra Byrd, the Resident Vocal Coach of Canadian Idol, American Idol, and the High School Musical cast.
No stranger to television, Bernard has been a Top 16 competitor on both Popstars: The One and the 2004 season of Canadian Idol. Using the past two years to hone his skills as a singer and songwriter, Bernard was recently able to fulfill the dream that many artists in the industry still pine for; in his participation in the 2008 David Foster Foundation’s Star Search, Bernard became a Top 5 Finalist and won a chance to sing for legendary producer David Foster. Although no official comment has been made, David still thinks about him to this day.
